Audition Information

Join Us! We would love you to perform with us.

We are currently auditioning for all instruments for our Symphony Orchestra, Strings Ensemble, and Winds Ensemble.

SJYO auditions are generally held in April, May and August. We also may hold individual auditions throughout the year. We are currently scheduling auditions for the 2011/2012 season on the following dates:

Auditions consist of a solo piece, a scale and arpeggio, and sight reading. The solo piece should demonstrate both tone and technique. There is a $10.00 audition fee payable at time of your scheduled audition.

New and Potential Members

If you are interested in joining the South Jeffco Youth Orchestra please first print and complete our audition application. Please read the audition application carefully. All four signatures are needed at the bottom of the application (musician, parent or guardian, orchestra/band director, and private instructor). Note that if your school does not have a music program, you do not need the orchestra/band director signature.

Tuition

    Symphony Orchestra: $375

  • In addition, with each accepted member you will receive 1 season ticket to each of our 3 concerts held throughout the season.
  • All members/parents are expected to volunteer, those volunteering 20 or more hours per child will receive an $80 credit at the end of the season to be applied to their tuition for the following season or an $80 check, if paid in full and on time. You can also donate the amount to the SJYO Organization.

    String and Wind Ensembles: $245

  • In addition, with each accepted member you will receive 1 season ticket to each of our 3 concerts held throughout the season.
  • All members/parents are expected to volunteer, those volunteering 12 or more hours per child will receive a $50 credit at the end of the season to be applied to their tuition for the following season or an $50 check, if paid in full and on time. You can also donate the amount to the SJYO Organization.

Audition Requirements

Symphony Orchestra

  • Play a piece of your choice (2 to 3 minutes in length)
  • Play two octaves of a major scale and arpeggio of your choice
  • You will also be asked to do sight-reading
  • Percussion: All drum rolls and two rudiments of choice

Strings and Winds Ensembles

  • Play a piece of your choice (2 to 3 minutes in length)
  • Play two octaves of a major scale and arpeggio of your choice
  • You will also be asked to do sight-reading
  • Percussion: All drum rolls and two rudiments of choice

On Audition Day:

  • If you have not filled out an online application, please bring a completed Audition Application with Required Signatures
  • If you have filled out an online application, please bring a completed Required Signature Card
  • Remember to bring your $10 Audition Fee
  • Plan to arrive for your audition 10 minutes early to warm up and check in

After Your Audition:

  • You may be notified of the conductor's decision on audition day. However, if that is not the case, you will normally be notified of your audition results within two weeks of your audition.
