§ South Jeffco Youth Orchestra holds auditions-by-appointment Saturday April 19
March 14, 2008 - In its fifth season, the South Jeffco Youth Orchestra will hold its annual young artist auditions at D’Evelyn Jr/Sr High School, 10359 W. Nassau Ave. (NW Corner S. Kipling & W. Quincy Ave.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 and again on Monday, May 5 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at ten minute intervals. Auditions are being scheduled for the SJYO’s three instrumental music groups: The South Jeffco Youth Orchestra, the South Jeffco Strings Ensemble and the South Jeffco Jazz Ensemble.
§ South Jeffco Youth Orchestra Spring Concert
March 14, 2008 - The South Jeffco Youth Orchestra (SJYO) will perform the final concert of the 2007-2008 season in its spring concert appropriately called, “The Planets”. This musically exciting concert will be held at D’Evelyn Jr./Sr. High School on Monday evening, April 28 at 7 p.m. The orchestra will perform the movements called Jupiter and Neptune from The Planets by Gustav Holtz, followed by works of other recognized classical and contemporary composers. The South Jeffco Youth Orchestra is conducted by Mr. Frank Fyock, music director and principal conductor.
§ South Jeffco Youth Orchestra Announces Recruiting Drive
February 25, 2008 - Sarah Kaser has been appointed by the South Jeffco Youth Orchestra (SJYO) to spearhead an intense recruiting drive to encourage young instrumental musicians in Jefferson County and surrounding areas to audition for positions in the SJYO during its April Auditions recruiting period. Ms. Kaser is an active member of the organization serving as violin mentor and teacher. Her recruiting program involves contacting private music teachers in the area, charter schools, home-school students and other sources involving instrumental music students from ages six to twenty four.
§ Jefferson County Resident Wins CARES Volunteer Grants Award
NEWARK, N.J. (January 2, 2008) – The Prudential Foundation and Prudential Financial, recently provided $461,000 in Prudential CARES Volunteer Grants to 444 nonprofit organizations worldwide. The Prudential Volunteer Grants program recognizes individual and team volunteers on a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service per individual. Grants from $250 to $5,000 for each award winner’s charitable organization. The following Jefferson County resident was presented with an award to pass along to his chosen charity.
John J. Galland of Golden, Colo., a Prudential Financial retiree, received a Prudential CARES Volunteer Grants Award of $1,000 for the South Jeffco Orchestra. Galland served 600 hours in 2006 as an advisor, developing marketing strategies, managing auditions and raising funds for the organization. The South Jeffco Youth Orchestra collaborates with adult volunteers, music educators and the Jefferson County School District to develop the skills of young musicians in the metropolitan area.
