SJYO Orchestras
SJYO offers youths ages 8 to 22 three unique orchestras based on their individual ability:
South Jeffco Youth Symphony Orchestra

The SJYO Symphony Orchestra is an advanced orchestra with a full compliment of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. The purpose of the South Jeffco Youth Orchestra (SJYO) is to enhance the musical skills of young musicians of all ages through age twenty three. The SJYO strives to be an outstanding youth orchestra committed to performing quality classical and contemporary music; to providing opportunities and a supportive, challenging environment for its musicians; and dedicated to producing collaborative, educational, and enjoyable experiences for diverse audiences.
Students experience the elements of a professional environment, including competition, responsibility, and concert hall performances. Students are offered opportunities to expand their repertoire and are provided a supportive, challenging environment.

Strings Ensemble
The South Jeffco Strings Ensemble fosters the growth of young string musicians on violin, viola, cello, bass and acoustic guitar. The Strings ensemble provides an opportunity to play a varied repertoire of classical music, world music and well known orchestral themes from film music. The students develop the skills and technique needed to advance to the Symphony Orchestra by playing duets, trios, and full ensemble pieces.
Because this is a multilevel group, opportunities exist for nearly anyone able to read at a beginning level and able to maintain rhythmic accuracy in a group. However, this group is also well suited for more advanced players without group experience, who may be assigned solos and harder parts as the role fits.

Winds Ensemble
The South Jeffco Winds Ensemble will be a training and support group for the symphony orchestra. While they will study and perform their own literature, their focus will be to prepare for inclusion in the orchestra proper.

Beginner Program
In an effort to provide an on-going source of new musicians for our Ensembles and Orchestra, the SJYO is implementing a new beginners program for the 2011-12 season. The program is aimed at 4th and 5th grade or other beginning musicians and will provide access to a professional instructor versed in music education of this age group and access to instruments on a needs basis. The cost for the full season $95. Each rehearsal will be 1 hour on Mondays. There will be performances during each of our regularly scheduled concerts. There no basic requirements, except a commitment to attend throughout the season.
