Why South Jeffco Youth Orchestra?
Mission
The mission of the SJYO is to develop exceptional musical skills, leadership, teamwork, self-discipline and organizational abilities in young musicians from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in Jefferson County and surrounding areas.
Vision
The South Jeffco Youth Orchestra (SJYO) strives to be an outstanding youth symphony committed to performing quality classical and contemporary music; to providing opportunities and a supportive, challenging environment for its young musicians; and dedicated to producing collaborative, educational, and enjoyable experiences for diverse audiences.
Goals
- To bring together the finest young musicians from Jefferson County and surrounding areas to rehearse and perform together under inspiring leadership.
- To enable students to experience the elements of a professional environment, including competition, responsibility, and concert hall performances.
- To develop performers and audiences for the future.
- To offer students opportunities to expand their repertoire through broadly based variations and styles of music from standard professional repertoire.
- To augment, enrich, encourage, and enhance local school music programs.
- To inspire students' interest in music as performers.
- To provide students with the opportunity to develop self-worth through their musical accomplishments
- To provide high quality symphonic music to the general public at a reasonable cost.
Orchestras
SJYO offers youths ages 8 to 22 three orchestras based on their individual ability: South Jeffco Youth Symphony Orchestra, Strings Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble.
Opportunites & Advantages
SJYO offers its members a 2-day retreat at the beginning of each each season to allow the members to get to know each other and be a cohesive unit.
