Vision

The South Jeffco Youth Orchestra (SJYO) strives to be an outstanding youth symphony committed to performing quality classical and contemporary music; to providing opportunities and a supportive, challenging environment for its young musicians; and dedicated to producing collaborative, educational, and enjoyable experiences for diverse audiences.

Goals

One goal of the SJYO is to support and encourage school music programs. We believe school music programs are crucial for developing musicians and enhance the educational experience. By providing opportunities to further develop their skills, the SJYO aims to improve young artists’ musical experience both in school and in the community. SJYO musicians are expected to participate in their school instrumental music program. If an appropriate music program is available at their school, then if able the SJYO member must participate.
To bring together the finest young musicians from Jefferson County and surrounding areas to rehearse and perform together under inspiring leadership.
To enable students to experience the elements of a professional environment, including competition, responsibility, and concert hall performances.
To develop performers and audiences for the future.
To offer students opportunities to expand their repertoire through broadly based variations and styles of music from standard professional repertoire.
To augment, enrich, encourage, and enhance local school music programs.
To inspire students' interest in music as performers.
To provide students with the opportunity to develop self-worth through their musical accomplishments
To provide high quality symphonic music to the general public at a reasonable cost.
